Solutions · Legacy retrofit
Keep the N2 controllers. Replace the lock-in.
Many buildings still run on Metasys N2 trunks with field controllers that work fine. AeroNode connects to those trunks as the supervisory controller, so owners can modernize the front end without rewiring the building.
- N2 Open
- RS-485 · 9600 8N1
- Up to 4 trunks per node
- Discovery by address scan
How it works
A modern supervisor on a legacy trunk.
The AeroNode becomes the N2 master for the trunk. N2 points then sit alongside BACnet points in AeroView, ready for dashboards, trends and alarms.
Land the trunk
Connect the existing N2 trunk to an isolated RS-485 channel on the AeroNode. The wiring stays where it is.
Discover controllers
Scan trunk addresses to find the N2 controllers that respond, then add them as devices.
Map the points
Add points by region and object number from each controller's point map, with names, units and facets.
Operate & extend
Monitor live values, override and release outputs, trend and alarm on N2 points, and mix in BACnet devices as the building evolves.
The business case
Modernize the part that's actually obsolete.
In most N2 buildings the field controllers still do their jobs. What's aging is the supervisory layer: the servers, the software and the licensing around them. Replacing just that layer protects the owner's biggest investment, the installed field devices and wiring.
- No rewiring: the N2 trunk lands on the AeroNode as-is
- Browser-based operation with no client software to install
- Replace N2 field devices gradually, on the owner's schedule
- No capacity licenses and no annual SMA on the new supervisory layer
- Outbound-only remote access through AeroConnect (optional)
FAQ
N2 retrofit questions.
Which N2 devices does AeroNode support?
AeroNode supervises devices that speak N2 Open. It discovers controllers by scanning trunk addresses, reads their points by region and object number from the controller's point map, and overrides or releases outputs.
Can the existing NAE or NCM stay connected?
No. An N2 trunk has one master. When the AeroNode takes over a trunk, the existing supervisory device is disconnected from that trunk. Your dealer plans the cutover trunk by trunk.
How many N2 trunks can one AeroNode handle?
The AeroNode 485 has four isolated RS-485 channels, and each can run its own N2 trunk, BACnet MS/TP trunk or a mix.
Do we have to replace the N2 controllers eventually?
Only when it makes sense. N2 devices can stay in service as long as they're healthy, and they can be replaced gradually with BACnet devices on the same AeroNode.
